Powering the Next Generation: MediaTek Kompanio 540 Brings All-Day Performance to Student Chromebooks @mediatek_C

Today’s classrooms are more demanding than ever. Students need technology that is fast, responsive, and capable of keeping up with everything from basic browsing to creative STEM applications. To meet this need, MediaTek has introduced the MediaTek Kompanio 540, a new chip designed to deliver exceptional power and efficiency to thin, ultra-portable Chromebooks.

This new processor is built to help students learn, create, and thrive in a digital-first world.

Seamless Performance for Modern Learning

The Kompanio 540 is engineered for smooth performance and effortless multitasking. Its key features include:

  • An octa-core processor with two powerful Arm Cortex-A78 CPUs.
  • A dual-core graphics engine.
  • Support for premium LPDDR5 memory and fast UFS 3.1 storage.

This powerful combination allows students to seamlessly switch between tasks like browsing the web, streaming media, or even running more demanding applications like Tinkercad and Minecraft® Education Edition without any lag.

All-Day Battery Life and Quiet Operation

One of the standout features of the Kompanio 540 is its incredible efficiency. It delivers 35% longer battery life compared to the previous generation (Kompanio 520), allowing users to stay productive and entertained all day on a single charge.

Furthermore, this power-efficient design enables fanless operation. This means Chromebooks powered by the Kompanio 540 run cool and completely silent, eliminating distracting fan noise in the classroom.

High-Resolution Streaming

The chip also features a powerful integrated video decoding engine. This ensures smooth, high-resolution video streaming, even on an external TV, without draining the battery.

As John Maletis, VP of ChromeOS at Google, stated, “We’re excited to see the MediaTek Kompanio 540 power more Chromebooks and bring a balance of power and efficiency to more users who can rely on it to bring them a full day of work and play.”

MediaTek Kompanio 540-powered Chromebooks are expected to be available starting in January 2026.

Realme and RICOH Announce Strategic Partnership to Elevate Mobile Photography on REalme GT 8 Pro

Big Changes for Realme Photography

A significant announcement was made today in the world of mobile technology, as smartphone brand realme and acclaimed camera maker RICOH IMAGING revealed a new strategic partnership. This long-term collaboration, which has been in development for four years, is set to launch on October 14th in Beijing, China, officially. It is positioned as one of the industry’s most in-depth imaging partnerships, with a special focus on street photography.

Addressing a Need for Authenticity

The collaboration was founded on a shared understanding of modern user demands. realme identified that young photographers often face two main frustrations: increasingly similar hardware across devices and over-processed photo algorithms that can remove authenticity. As realme Vice President and CMO Chase Xu explained, “People are getting tired of the same ‘perfect style’ photos. More and more, everyone wants to show their own style, instead of copying the same look”.

This goal aligned perfectly with RICOH’s GR series, long celebrated as a “street photography hero” for its quality and portability. The partnership aims to merge the heritage of conventional cameras with mobile photography, providing tools for genuine personal expression.

The GT 8 Pro: Where Heritage Meets Innovation

The first product to debut from this joint venture will be the realme GT 8 Pro. Through extensive co-engineering between the realme and RICOH GR R&D teams, the new device will offer a unique imaging experience with several key innovations:

  • Groundbreaking advancements in optical capabilities, color algorithms, and imaging tones.
  • The integration of 30 years of RICOH GR heritage, including its iconic film-like aesthetic and five classic image tones.
  • A tailor-made user interface designed to mimic the feel of a RICOH GR camera.

A New Culture of Photography: “Snap By No Rules”

Beyond the technology itself, this partnership seeks to extend street photography culture into the mobile era. The guiding philosophy, “Snap By No Rules,” encourages users to capture and express themselves freely, without waiting for a perfect setup. “It’s a fresh, young way to take photos… just press the button and capture the moment,” said Xu.

The official debut on October 14th will mark the beginning of what both companies hope will be a new chapter for mobile street photography.
