MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Arrives to Power the Next Generation of AI Smartphones
HSINCHU, Taiwan – MediaTek today, September 22, 2025, launched its most advanced mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9500. This new flagship System-on-Chip (SoC) is set to redefine the capabilities of high-end 5G smartphones by delivering unparalleled performance, power efficiency, and on-device AI experiences.
According to JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, the Dimensity 9500 is designed to meet consumer demand for devices that are “smarter, faster, and more personal without sacrificing battery life. The new platform delivers on this with breakthrough on-device AI, top-tier performance, and a full suite of premium features.
A New Era of Performance and Efficiency
At the heart of the Dimensity 9500 is a third-generation All Big Core CPU architecture. This setup includes a powerful 4.21GHz ultra core, three premium cores, and four performance cores. This new design yields a significant performance boost, delivering up to 29% higher single-core and 16% higher multi-core performance compared to the previous generation. Critically, the ultra core achieves this while consuming up to 55% less power at peak performance, promising more extended battery life.
The chipset is also the first in the industry to support 4-channel UFS 4.1 storage, which, combined with a new cache architecture, doubles read/write speeds. This innovation also accelerates the loading of large AI models by 40%.
Agentic AI and a Powerhouse NPU
The Dimensity 9500 is engineered to deliver a truly “agentic AI UX,” featuring AI that is proactive, personalized, evolving, and secure. This is driven by the ninth-generation MediaTek NPU 990, with a Generative AI Engine 2.0, which doubles the compute power of its predecessor.
Key AI capabilities include:
- Efficient Model Processing: The introduction of BitNet 1-bit large model processing reduces power consumption by up to 25%.
- Always-On Capability: The ultra-efficient NPU enables always-on small models, cutting power use by over 40%.
- Generative AI Speed: Users will experience 100% faster output from 3-billion-parameter Large Language Models (LLMs) and can process long texts of up to 128K tokens.
- High-Resolution Image Generation: The platform supports the industry’s first 4K ultra-high-resolution image generation.
Console-Class Gaming and Advanced Imaging
Gamers can look forward to console-level raytracing experiences, thanks to the integrated Arm G1-Ultra GPU. This GPU provides up to 33% higher peak performance and a 42% improvement in power efficiency. The chipset also introduces double frame rate interpolation, up to 120 FPS. MediaTek has collaborated with top game studios to enable features such as MegaLights in Unreal Engine 5.6 and Nanite in Unreal Engine 5.5, providing real-time, immersive lighting effects.
For photography and videography, the MediaTek Imagiq 1190 supports RAW-domain pre-processing and captures images up to 200MP. It also enables cinematic 4K video recording at 60 FPS in portrait mode and utilizes the NPU to assist with focusing.
Smarter Connectivity
The Dimensity 9500 enhances connectivity with AI-powered technologies. These optimizations deliver up to 10% lower power consumption on 5G networks and 20% lower power in Wi-Fi scenarios. Furthermore, AI positioning and network selection technologies provide 20% greater accuracy and reduce network latency lag by 50% compared to competitors25.
Availability
Smartphones powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 are expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.
